Joyetech Exceed D19 Starter Kit - First Impressions
The first thing that surprised me when I opened the package was the size of the kit. This starter vape pen is incredibly small and super stealthy.
It will fit nicely even in a very small hand. This is really great, considering the fact that this is not a pod mod but a serious piece of starter vape gear with a solid battery capacity.
Novice vapers will find it super easy to use as there is only one button. There are also only two vaping mods to choose from, so no hassle there.
In addition, there's no need for battery cells or chargers - just use the USB port for charging!
You also get good coil heads which produce flavorful vape and have a great vapor production!
The D19 Atomizer
In the atomizer itself there comes the factory mounted MTL head which needs to be primed by adding a few drops of your
favorite juice from the top into the upper hole of the coil head.
After that, you can conveniently top fill the tank by unscrewing the top cap and the mouth piece, which are made as one part.
Not being able to use your favorite drip tip doesn't matter much as the one included is the right diameter and very comfortable.
The only possible problem with a drip tip/plastic cap that sits on top of the Joyetech Exceed D19 atomizer is if you overtighten it so - don't!
There is an oring that works well as an insulator/sealer so there's no need to apply that much force.
The Tank Capacity and The Oring Hickup
Sadly, the orings on the tank arrived stuck onto the glass so they tore up as I tried to take them out for washing and I
needed to replace them with the spare set.
If this happens on the brand new tank, don't forget to wash all the rubber of the glass by gently brushing it. After washing the glass tank rinse it thoroughly.
As for the juice capacity, although the specifications say that the capacity of the atomizer is 2ml, I only managed to get 1.5ml into it.
Since the kit is intended for beginners who will use juices with 12 to 18 mg of nicotine and have a consumption of about 4ml to 5ml a day, the small capacity is not that big of a deal, especially considering the ease of refilling the tank.
The D19 Atomizer Coil Heads and the Airflow
As I said, the EX 1.2ohm MTL head comes mounted in the atomizer, and one extra EX 0.5ohm DL head is included in the package.
The same coil heads can be used for Exceed D22. Compatibility is always a great feature.
On the MTL head, the airflow diameter is about 1.5mm, so that, as far as the vertical coil head is concerned, this is also the width of the air flow. The openings for the liquid, on the side are about 2.5mm.
With the DL coil head, the air flow width is about 3.5 mm while the liquid openings are about 3 mm.
There's a crisp sound coming out of the coil head at first. That's normal, don't get startled.
There is next to no break-in period and once the coils are saturated, you'll get a ton of flavor from your favorite e-juice!
The D19 Tank Top Filling and Airflow
The top fill works really great: unscrew the top cap, fill in the e-liquid and your're ready to vape. You can use most size bottles with ease and no spillage!
This two kidney-shaped juice ports have become a standard as they combine the ease of use with the speed of refilling well.
The airflow control is done using the ring at the bottom of the atomizer. D19 tank AF has stoppers and features 3 holes with the diameter of about 0.7mm and one wider slot. With all 3 holes open, I still got a satisfying MTL vape with good flavor.
The Exceed D19 Battery and the Vaping Modes
As far as the battery is concerned, it is an internal rechargeable 1500mAh cell with the USB slot. The maximum output power is 40W.
There are two modes of operation: "direct output" which means that the power that the battery delivers power depending on the battery charge and there is "constant voltage output". The second constant delivers 3.8 volts regardless of the current battery charge.
Subjectively, in the constant output mode, it feels more like 3.7V and the performance drop is noticeable when the battery falls below 20% of charge when it seems to deliver more like around 3.6V.
Choosing one or the other mode is easy by clicking on the trigger button. 5 quick clicks turn the battery on or off.
Baterry Light Indicators and Charge
When it is off, a longer press of the button changes the mode between "direct output" and "constant voltage output" option. The change indicator is the LED light at the top of the battery. The white bluish color indicates the "direct output", while the yellow orange goes for "constant voltage output".
Also, these LEDs indicate the current battery charge while you're vaping. When the fire button is pressed, the light bulb lights up and when you take your finger off the button the light goes out for a second and then lights up again to indicate how much charge you have left in the battery.
Battery 60% -100% - the LED constantly shines
Battery 30% -59% - the LED slowly flashes
Battery 10% -29% - the LED moderately flickers
Battery 0% -9% - the LED flashes quickly
As for the performance of the battery vs liquid consumption, I managed to get 5ml liquid with MTL head and "constant voltage output" mode: 3ml of liquid until the battery dropped below 60% and another 1ml when the battery dropped below 30% and the last 1ml before the battery has drained fully.
Charging the battery last for about 2 hours and I would say it's 0.75A internal charging using the built-in USB port.
Joyetech Exceed D19 Starter Kit Summary
For a beginner kit, Joyetech Exceed D19 does a great job! The flavor out of the stock coils is more than good, among the best I've tried, actually. The coil heads have a very fast breaking point and start providing full flavor with solid vapor production very quickly.
There are no dry hits and no flooding. Coupled with a solid battery capacity and a great ergonomics, Joyetech Exceed D19 is definitely one of the best starter kits I tried so far! At the price, you should get two and always have one on hand for all day vaping delight!
